SEA SIDE STORY
2018年SSの＜BEAMS PLUS（ビームス プラス）＞は、アメリカ東海岸の海沿いの、さまざまな夏物語を服に描きました。時代は1950年中頃から1960年代中頃。ニューポートで開催されるジャズ・フェスティバルに胸を躍らせる人々や、コニーアイランドのポップな遊園地でアトラクションを楽しむ人々。両者のドレスコードは異なりますが、その装いはともに彩りに満ちていました。シャツにジャケット、潮風にたなびくコートは、色と色、柄と柄を掛け合わせ、シーサイド一帯に陽気なムードを漂わせていたのです。
コレクションのハイライトは、カラフルなベーシックウェア。ポロシャツやサマーニット、ブルゾンは基本色にイエローやグリーン、ピンクなど鮮やかなカラーを加えました。トラディショナルを象徴するトレンチコートは、往時のヴィンテージを忠実にサンプリングしつつ、最先端の素材で着心地を高めました。派手な色の作業服を着て、滑走路のアイコニックな存在だったUS NAVYのカタパルトオフィサーにインスパイアされたミリタリーウェアも、コレクションに彩りと深みを与えるピースです。
海岸の避暑地で過ごす当時の人々は、アメリカに残されていた「着飾る」文化にカラフルさを加え、夏を満喫していました。機能的なオリジナルファブリックを作り込み、その美しさを現代的にアップデートしています。
BEAMS PLUS drops “SEASIDE STORY” collections for Spring & Summer 2018. The collections drew inspiration from resort wears and the summer lifestyle itself in the East Coast from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s. People at that time had so much fun outside, for example, at outdoor jazz music festivals in Newport, or at the amusement park in the Coney Island. They dressed themselves differently depending on the places and situations, but they always enjoyed dressing in different patterns and colors. The shirts, jackets, and coats fluttering in the sea breeze brought lively atmosphere to the seaside area.
One of the highlights in the collections is colorful basic wear. Bright colors such as yellow, green, and pink are added to the basic color lineups of polo shirts, summer knitwear, and blouson jackets. The traditional trench coat has original details from a vintage model, but it is made of modern light-weight fabric for comfort. The military wear in vivid colors inspired by the catapult officer of the U.S. Navy also is an important piece that adds colors and depth into the collections.
The people spending their summer at seaside resorts in the 50s and 60s fully enjoyed wearing bright colors. BEAMS PLUS updates their beautiful styles for today with its functional original fabrics.

In the mid-1940s to mid-1960s, so called America’s "golden era", the U.S.’ national strength remarkably grew, taking advantage of the booming economy. During this era, systemized mass production eventually became the mainstream, and various uniforms were modified for more specific scenes.
The fashion standard and origin of today’s basic wear comes from the categories, American traditional, work, sports and military. Universal beauty can be seen in these functional clothing that properly utilizes each significant detail. Based on the historical background of these uniforms, BEAMS PLUS suggests modernistic basic wear with authentic details.
